The Lie of the Land

FOST Gallery is delighted to present The Lie of the Land, our annual group exhibition in conjunction with Singapore’s national day. This year, a special edition titled Sediments is being presented to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her founding, with all artworks commissioned specifically for this exhibition.

Like rocks compacted over time from layers of accumulated sediment transported and deposited by rivers and weather systems, Singapore’s population comprises indigenous peoples and different communities of immigrants who have settled and continue to settle on this 735 sqm of land. The continued success of this young city state is nothing short of a miracle, but will its foundations survive the fissures caused by shifting fault lines of a new world order?

2025 also marks a resounding win by the ruling People’s Action Party at the recent General Elections with a newly appointed Prime Minister at the helm. How are we cementing our legacy—as her existing peoples continue to build on the shoulders of those who have come before; as her recent citizens lay down their roots; and a new generation of leaders decide the course this country takes?
