Ryonosuke Fukui: between the silent heavens and earth

“Nothing is eternal in this world. Everything that has a form will eventually return to the earth.” – Ryonosuke Fukui

I.F. Gallery is honored to present a solo exhibition “between the silent heavens and earth” by modern Japanese painter and printmaker, Ryonosuke Fukui (1923-1986), from the Showa period, featuring a collection of his paintings. Renowned for his portrait depictions of Maiko and snow landscapes, Fukui’s works are characterized by his distinctive sepia-toned textures derived from his printmaking techniques. He endeavored, for much of his artistic journey, to capture the essence of life and death, of form and space—in creating a spatial world free of constraints, he set out to explore the impermanence of form.

This exhibition allows us to ponder, as we stand amongst his works, the transience and emptiness of the uninhabited space between the silent heavens and earth.

The exhibition will run from 6 January to 28 February 2025. Located at 45 Tras Street, our gallery hours are 12-8:30 PM daily.
