The Wonderful World of Watercolor by Aaron Gan

知黑守白
画典为鉴
笔判天地
意走两间

Knowing black and keeping white,
Reflecting upon the arts,
The brush judges heaven and earth,
And its essence transverses the dichotomy

In Singapore, watercolor has often been associated with street scenes and plein air painting due to its utility and ease of use.

But watercolor can be much much more. Its versatility is unparalleled and its vocabulary, unlimited. From mountains to skies, from pandas to frogs, the canvas becomes the universe and its form, shaped by brushstrokes.

As an artist, I hope my paintings can bring happiness and good tidings to my collectors. As such, I like to paint artworks that symbolizes prosperity and good fortune. For this exhibition, I have taken the time to write out and explain why I have painted the subject matters and the meaning behind them. I hope you have fun reading the descriptions.

Over the years, I have gained much joy from exploring the worlds that exist between the paper and me. As you take the time to explore this exhibition, I hope that you too can find the joy that I have experienced while on this journey of learning and discovery.
