Responsive Art Therapy Workshop with The Red Pencil
Art appreciation brings about instinctive responses. Responsive art therapy workshops within exhibition spaces allow participants to externalise their inner experiences by “responding to curated art with a personal art expression”. This approach bridges the gap between public art appreciation and personal mental wellness, creating a safe, immersive environment for reflection.
Each workshop participant is given a “Mindful Response Kit” which is a clip board with pencil and a few pieces of paper with simple cues and lots of space to sketch or put down a few words that derive from the spontaneous responses during the tour of the art exhibition by artist, Wee Ping Chun.
The credentialed art therapists will ease the participants in a moment of mindfulness as they enter the workshop space before they channel their spontaneous responses to a personal art expression. An array of art materials that are used by the artist such as, Chinese ink, watercolour, acrylic, traditional rice paper and mixed media paper are provided to further inspire the participants. The session rounds up with a mini exhibition of the participants’ art works and some sharing facilitated by the art therapist. Participants will be brought back to the realm of mindfulness before leaving the workshop space.
