Private Collection Tours

Exclusive to patron’s pass holders, Singapore Gallery Month 2024 has curated tours of private art collections across the island, from the verdant greenery of Bukit Timah to the bucolic environs of Pasir Ris. Discover what drives these collectors!

Registering for private collection tours:

1.  Each Pass holder is entitled to register for two spots – either for 1 spot on 2 different tours, or 2 spots on a single tour.

2.  Availability is subject to capacity restrictions, which may vary for each tour. Spots on each tour are secured on a first come, first served basis.

3.  Registration for private collection tours is free for Patron’s Pass holders, and may be made by writing to sggallerymonth@gmail.com.

4.  The exact venue for each tour will be shared with registrants privately over e-mail when they sign up for the tour. Registrants will have to provide an email address for communication purposes.

 

 

The Malcolm Road Collection 1

With their collection of Asian art and antiquities, this cosmopolitan couple have transformed a historical property into a resort-style sanctuary with thoughtfully curated artworks. The pair’s collection, rich in its diversity and historicity, traces centuries of Southeast Asian artistic developments and confluence of cultures. Join the two avid collectors as they lead a private tour of their home, where they will share insights into their practice of collecting and cataloguing art for personal uses.

The Malcolm Road Collection 2

Home to a pair of collectors hailing from Hong Kong, this abode in the lush greenery of Malcolm Road hosts a unique collection of global contemporary art. For the couple, their collection is shaped by their affinity for metaphysics and philosophical ideas such as identity politics, psychoanalysis, and the passage of time. Discover how opposites work together in a creative environment as viewers are taken on an exclusive tour through their private collection.

The Nassim Road Collection

This British couple’s private collection has been growing since they first met over 30 years ago and followed them when they relocated to Singapore. Their background in design lends itself to the thoughtful curation and display of a personalised collection that reflects a particular interest in female artists. Join us as they share how they have managed to incorporate their growing collection in their home.

The Stevens Road Collection

For these two collectors, they built their collection with their South Asian roots in mind.

They attempt to change the installation at their homes every year. Currently, there are several contemporary artists’ works in the Singapore hang with a focus on textiles and patterns, as well as narratives on home and identity. Beyond collecting, the two are dedicated cultural philanthropists who founded non-profit organisations in support of artists and environmental causes. Stand to learn how an art collection can be made personal as these collectors guide you through their collection of contemporary South Asian, West Asian and Southeast Asian pieces.

The Pasir Ris Collection

Previously based in China, this collector has expanded his collection of Chinese art to include works by contemporary Singaporean artists. Since returning to Singapore in 2019, this art aficionado has immersed himself in our local art scene, exploring independent spaces and galleries to discover the practices of young creatives. Join this collector on a tour of his home as he shares his passion for acquiring Singapore contemporary art and approach to building a collection.

The River Valley Collection

Situated within the Orchard Road precinct, this apartment is home to an Australian couple with a taste for art from the Asia–Pacific region. Since relocating to Singapore, the pair have expanded their collection of First Nations art to include works by local creatives such as Hazel Lim, Alvin Ong and Robert Zhao. A must-see for those interested in building a personal art collection, expect to gain insight from this couple’s acquisitions that explore themes of modernity, queerness, and post-colonialism.

The Bukit Timah Collection

From an early age, this collector developed an eye for aesthetics, immersed in her late father’s world of museums. This exposure sparked her interest in pursuing art history alongside East Asian studies, the latter bringing her to Asia three decades ago. Today, she honours her father’s legacy by continuing the family tradition of collecting art, expanding her collection to include contemporary Asian works. Expect to experience exquisite art by leading artists from Korea, China, India, and Taiwan.
