Fragments of a Living City by Anthony Chua Say Hua

Fragments of a Living City presents a compelling new series of works by Singapore artist Anthony Chua Say Hua, whose expressive visual language captures the emotional pulse of Singapore’s evolving urban landscape. Through layered brushwork, spontaneous mark-making, cascading pigments, and atmospheric abstraction, Anthony reconstructs familiar streets, shophouses, riverfronts, and city landmarks into poetic memories suspended between history and modernity.

Rather than documenting Singapore literally, Anthony paints the city as it is remembered, felt, and emotionally experienced — fragmented yet alive, chaotic yet deeply human. Each canvas becomes an archive of movement, nostalgia, architecture, and cultural identity, reflecting the tension between preservation and transformation within Singapore’s rapidly changing landscape.
