Artist Profile
Gilles Massot is a multidisciplinary artist and academic whose work explores “the space between things,” uncovering connections across disciplines, histories, and geographies. His visual practice focuses on the theory of photography and its relationship to time and space. Trained in architecture and photography in Marseille, he relocated to Singapore in 1981 and became an active participant in the emerging art scene, contributing to early editions of the Festival of Arts Fringe and the 1987 Yin Yang Festival.
Extensive travels throughout Asia and Europe in the 1990s led to more than fifty exhibitions and significant editorial output. Since the 2000s, his work has increasingly engaged with history and ethnology. Massot’s works are held in major collections like the Singapore Art Museum, National Museum of Singapore, and National Gallery Singapore,. He is a recipient of the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
