PRESS RELEASE: SINGAPORE GALLERY MONTH 2025

Singapore Gallery Month Returns For 2025:
By Local Galleries, For the Regional Art Community
Singapore, 16 July 2025 — The Art Galleries Association Singapore (AGAS) is proud to present this year’s Singapore Gallery Month from 15 August to 14 September 2025. This marks the first-ever community-led edition, and features programmes by over 30 of Singapore’s leading art galleries across town.
Singapore Gallery Month (SGM) is a vibrant, month-long celebration of exhibitions, events, and artist- and collector-driven experiences that spotlight the role of galleries as cultural gatekeepers, community-builders, and champions of the visual arts in Southeast Asia.
Exhibitions: Celebrating Art Across Borders and Generations
With exhibitions by over 30 galleries, this year’s SGM coincides with SG60, shining a light on the stories, voices, and visions that have shaped Singapore’s cultural landscape over the decades. Some of the exhibitions that spotlight local artists include:
- • Alliance Française de Singapour presents Singapore Refracted, a group show featuring May Oon, Yen Phang, D'Gers, and Nicolas Damiens, exploring cross-cultural interpretations of Singapore through the eyes of its inhabitants. Exhibition dates: 6 – 27 Sep 2025.
- • Gajah Gallery showcases A Thousand Histories, a landmark solo exhibition by Singaporean artist Suzann Victor refracting colonial memory. Exhibition dates: 1 Aug – 7 Sep 2025.
- • Haridas Contemporary debuts Small Things Brought Together at its new space at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, featuring nine emerging and mid-career artists from Singapore and beyond, such as Jeremy Sharma, Melissa Tan, and John Marie Andrada. Exhibition dates: 2 – 31 Aug 2025.
- • JW PROJECTS presents The Other Singaporeans, featuring artists who are naturalised Singaporeans, former Singaporeans, and foreigners residing in Singapore. Exhibition dates: 15 Aug – 28 Sep 2025.
- • STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery presents Material Moves, featuring four Cultural Medallion recipients: Han Sai Por, Goh Beng Kwan, Ong Kim Seng and the late Chua Ek Kay on the occasion of Singapore’s 60th year of independence, recognising their contributions in shaping the country’s art scene during their storied careers. Exhibition dates: 16 Aug – 5 Oct 2025.
Says Emi Eu, Executive Director of STPI: “Singapore Gallery Month is a valuable platform that brings the gallery community together to showcase the richness of Singapore’s visual arts landscape. It provides an opportunity for audiences – both new and seasoned – to engage more deeply with the stories, histories, and practices that define our scene.”
Singapore’s art scene is enriched by its global outlook, with many local galleries representing a diverse roster of regional and international artists whose practices resonate across cultures. Some of them include:
- • The Columns Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Kim Kang Yong, whose paintings use light and shadow to create strikingly realistic illusions of bricks, blurring the line between reality and image. Exhibition Dates: 7 Aug – 4 Oct 2025.
- • Mizuma Gallery showcases a group exhibition of 12 Japanese artists, curated by Kazuki Takakura and Daichi Nakagawa, that explores the relationship between contemporary art and video games. Exhibition dates: 29 Aug – 19 Oct 2025.
- • Ota Fine Arts features a solo show by Zhao Yao, a leading figure in contemporary Chinese art, whose conceptual works challenge traditional notions of perception and belief. Exhibition dates: 26 Jul – 6 Sep 2025.
Says Theresia Irma, General Manager of Mizuma Gallery: “We’re proud to be part of Singapore Gallery Month, which reflects the diversity and dynamism of our gallery scene. It’s a moment where different artistic voices – local and international – can come together to spark new perspectives and cultural exchange.”
Events: Talks, Workshops, Performances & Pop-ups
Beyond gallery exhibitions, SGM 2025 features a diverse lineup of events designed to invite wider participation from the public and deepen engagement with contemporary art. Selected programme highlights include:
- • Sims Galleria presents a calligraphy workshop where participants will learn classical brushwork techniques and use them to express modern social themes, before transferring their final design onto Chinese-style wooden lamps. Dates: 16 & 23 Aug 2025.
- • ShanghART Singapore hosts a live, improvised performance by Lai Yu Tong, Mark Chua, Lam Li Shuen, and Wu Jun Han on the occasion of Lai Yu Tong's solo exhibition at the gallery, The Dogs. Using shadow, sound, and storytelling, this collaborative piece evokes the raw immediacy of storytelling around a fire – part kindergarten skit, part wayang kulit. Dates: 5 & 6 Sep 2025.
- • Intersections Art Gallery welcomes visitors for a still life drawing workshop with Andy Yang, offering a hands on opportunity to experience the creative process that inspired his exhibition, Akar Akar. Date: 30 Aug 2025.
- • At Downtown Gallery, SGM partners with OUE to launch The Pop-up M’art, an art market pop-up, featuring affordable works by member galleries – perfect for new collectors or art lovers looking for a unique find. Dates: 15 Aug – 14 Sep 2025.
Says Patrina Tan, SVP, Commercial & Retail Asset Management of OUE Limited: “We’re excited to partner with Singapore Gallery Month in making art more accessible to working professionals and urban dwellers. Downtown Gallery is proud to host this initiative, which brings creativity directly into the heart of the city.”
