Show Up Singapore!

Singapore, September 2024 - AGAS (Art Galleries Association of Singapore) is proud to present Singapore Gallery Month: an annual joint open house festival. Supported by the National Arts Council, the Association’s highly anticipated annual festival - formerly known as Singapore Gallery Weekend - is boldly rebranding and expanding its anticipated calendar highlight event this year into a full month of offerings.
From 1-29 September, engage with the works of over 99 artists spread across over 30 galleries. This year’s line-up includes works by international powerhouse Yayoi Kusama (Ota Fine Arts), regional art stalwarts Natee Utarit (STPI) and Demos Chiang (Whitestone Gallery), a dynamic group exhibition celebrating global artistic voices (39+ Art Space), local stars Ruben Pang (Richard Koh Fine Art) and Faris Heizer (Cuturi Gallery), just to name a few. Categorised into 3 ZONES: Gillman Barracks & vicinity, Tanjong Pagar & vicinity, and Orchard & Beyond, AGAS members will collectively open their doors to showcase a kaleidoscope of visual art.
Beyond just exhibitions, visitors can look forward to a smorgasbord of festivities and activities including Educational Talks, Guided Tours, and Workshops. The festival’s most popular events, the Private Collection Tours, Wellness & Art sessions, and Sip & Savour: A Sake Gallery Crawl, are also back. New to this year’s line-up are Sound Bath sessions, a headliner Creators and Connoisseurs: A Speed Dating Soiree, as well as pop-up Performance Art. One particular highlight includes a partnership with UNIQLO, who will co-conduct a series of children-oriented workshops, one of which will be conducted at new AGAS member space: Mama on Palette, a community of Singapore-based mother artists who are offering a series of family-friendly workshops on practices such as the Japanese art of kintsugi, resin jewellery making and face painting. New this year as well, is a partnership with Peace of Art, a non-profit organisation, to conduct an art-oriented boot camp for underprivileged children, as well as art platform Cohart, which is collaborating with SGM on a virtual tour of young collector Laura Peh’s art collection and a giveaway of three Patron’s Passes for visitors to their website. UNIQLO will also be spearheading #GalleryWithMe - a social media content creation campaign to drive awareness and participation.
Particle is Singapore Gallery Month’s official app: Digital Experiences at SGM 2024
Singapore Gallery Month is also proud to announce a partnership with Particle, an app that combines art and tech. This partnership will offer visitors a digital guide by way of a digital map to Singapore’s galleries, as well as augmented digital experiences. For instance, users will be able to hover their mobile devices over the Singapore Gallery Month logo and watch it transform from a 2D poster to a 3D interactive multimedia interaction.
Show Up, Singapore!
Since its inception in 2020, this event has become an annual expression of AGAS’s vision to build a robust, collaborative landscape for commercial galleries in Singapore. The key message is a call to action for visitors to head out and support their local art galleries and immerse themselves in the richness of our diverse artistic offerings.
“We are thrilled to announce this year’s Gallery Month as a tentpole event in our calendar. Our lifestyle programs are designed to enhance accessibility and consider the entire ecosystem, positioning galleries as pivotal platforms to showcase art and support artists in Singapore. AGAS’ aim is to foster a deeper appreciation for art and stimulate growth within the local art market. Every city's art scene reflects its soul—our collective creativity, resilience, and cultural identity. Galleries, with their patrons and artists, hold a unique and vital role in the ecosystem to contribute to enriching the nation's cultural essence”. says Audrey Yeo, President of AGAS and Founder of Yeo Workshop.
“AGAS members are united to drive culture appreciation, which in our opinion is the foundation of any art market. Culture appreciation does not happen overnight. It is an educational process that takes time, energy and passion, and the more cultural players we have in Singapore, the better.” says Kevin Cuturi of Cuturi Gallery, and AGAS member. "Galleries are more than just places to see art. They are spaces for expression, innovation, and conversation, where artists, curators, and enthusiasts come together to celebrate creativity. Galleries need support and patronage to thrive and continue engaging our community. By visiting your favourite galleries and discovering new ones, you not only enrich your own cultural journey but also help keep our local arts community vibrant." he adds.
"Having been away from Singapore for close to 20 years", remarks Singaporean collector Nicholas Song, "it is a delight to return to find a burgeoning art scene, with galleries and other arts platforms presenting a wealth of diverse programming. And it is heartening to see young artists in Singapore passionate about their practices. They deserve our support!"
“Singapore Gallery Month is about art and exhibitions. It is also about artists, art workers, collectors, enthusiasts - an entire community of people that makes our arts ecosystem thrive. Gallery Month fosters a deeper appreciation for the cultural fabric that connects us. Everyone should pay your local art gallery a visit, and see some art and meet the people who made it all possible” says Louis Ho, Program Director of Singapore Gallery Month, Curator and Art Historian & Educator.

About Singapore Gallery Month: We believe in the power and the value of art. Our vision is to create, invigorate, and sustain a robust art gallery ecosystem in Singapore. Our mission is to transcend art appreciation beyond transaction; into transformation.
We seek to empower both seasoned collectors and newcomers to explore and invest in art confidently and we do so by empowering venues and events that will allow our communities of artists and collectors to converge and find profound meaning in their exchange. Our members make up a dynamic art marketplace that celebrates diversity of expression and supports emerging artists alongside established names and our key role is to promote access. Through Singapore Gallery Month, we aspire to bridge the gap between artists and collectors, creating a culture where every interaction and facilitation is a transformative experience that enriches lives and sustains artistic endeavours for generations to come.
