Of Particles & Particularities by Aiman
Alongside a profound journey into parenthood, Aiman (b.1984, Singapore) debuts Of Particles & Particularities at Haridas Contemporary. Featuring ten large-scale paintings that explore narrative identity, the works piece together a contemplative landscape formed over time. Through a gradual assemblage of memory and experience gleaned from hindsight, the exhibition invites viewers to reconsider how personal histories shape our perception of space.
Describing his current series as “self-portraits without figures,” Aiman constructs fragments of both encountered and imagined destinations, ranging from vast deserts and imposing mountains to the shifting boundaries of the sea and sky. The artist approaches the work through two distinct lenses. First, he examines the “particles of matter” that comprise the physical environments we recognize. In tandem, he maps the “particularities of origin stories”—an ever-evolving intersection of memories, histories, relationships, and desires that ground our existence. By merging the micro-elements of nature with the macro-elements of human emotion, the collection captures the subtle existential nuances to which we are all uniquely attuned.
