The Collectible Experience 2
Where does the line between Art and Merchandise blur?
The project evolves from the typical retail experience to explore how practices rooted in action, time, and process can circulate through objects without being reduced by them. The Collectible Experience 2 is a curated edition project presented as a “booth” format in
partnership with INSTINC Gallery.
This edition focuses on bringing the format of a “booth” into the gallery, not in terms of tables, but bringing into question what exactly an installation is. Can a shopfront or a booth be an art installation?
By working with artists whose practices engage with non-object, performance-based, time-based, or process-led approaches, this show explores how these practices can be translated into manufactured, limited-edition collectibles, and where the boundaries between art and merchandise converge.
Rather than souvenirs or promotional merchandise, the editions are conceived as artifacts of practice, objects that carry gestures, actions, scores, residues, or conceptual frameworks from the artist’s work into a portable, reproducible form. The show will feature interpretations of the aesthetic of booths/shopfronts, and looks to continue the dialogue started in the first Collectible Experience. By engaging unconventional artists as well as an unconventional setup, the curators are asking by collapsing the boundaries between display, commerce, and installation, does merchandise become art and have these categories always been unstable?
