Fragment of a Story

In conjunction with Singapore Night Festival (21 Aug – 5 Sep) , the concept of “Fragment of a Story” at LOY Gallery is a direct metaphorical mirror to the structure of the Malay Annals (Sejarah Melayu). In the Annals, history is not presented as a seamless, chronological line, but as a “mythological repository” of distinct episodes—vibrant, poetic, and often surreal fragments that together form the soul of our land.

The Malay Annals is a mythological repository of our lands. The stories, encoded in poetic prose, draws from our shared histories with our maritime neighbours.

Under our reality, and our constructed city, lies another plane of knowledge, stories, and places; from beyond our time.

‘Fragment of a Story’ showcase at LOY Gallery located at Armenian Street, a fragment of the floor is symbolically lifted up, with a thread of text pointing in direction of Fort Canning hill, the nearest location mentioned in Malay Annals.
