Artist Profile
Quek Kiat Sing juxtaposes contemporary subjects with traditional Chinese ink painting, highlighting the continued relevance of Asian cultural traditions in modern life. Her work reflects a thoughtful dialogue between heritage and the present, using the expressive qualities of ink to reinterpret everyday scenes.
She has received numerous awards and commendations, including recognition in the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, the UOB Painting of the Year Competition organised by United Overseas Bank, the Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Award, and the China ASEAN Youth Artwork Creativity Contest.
Quek is a two-time recipient of the Freeman Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States. She has represented Singapore at ASEAN Cultural Week in Vietnam (2004) and at the India-ASEAN Artist Residency in Darjeeling, India (2012).
The works presented in A Satori Moment are drawn from her series Prayer to Spring - inspired by the Japanese tradition of appreciating cherry blossoms - and Everyday Singapore, which reimagines traditional ink painting within a contemporary urban context.
