THE NAME, AHĀRA, IS DERIVED FROM THE SANSKRIT WORD USED IN ANCIENT AYURVEDIC PHILOSOPHY TO DEFINE FOOD AS THE ROOT OF ALL WELL-BEING. DESCRIBED AS CHEF- OWNER VIKRAMJIT ROY’S ROCK BALLAD TO INDIA, AHĀRA IS A REFLECTION OF HIS ROOTS AND CULINARY JOURNEY. LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OF KEONG SAIK IN CHINATOWN, ART IS A PART OF THE DINING EXPERIENCE AT AHĀRA, AND A CURATED SELECTION FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE EIGHT FOUNDATION IS PROUDLY DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT THE RESTAURANT.
THE EIGHT FOUNDATION WAS FOUNDED BY SIMRAN AND VIR KOTAK, INDIVIDUALS DEEPLY ENGAGED IN THE WORLD OF ART. THE VISION OF THE EIGHT FOUNDATION IS TO ACT AS A CATALYST FOR ARTISTS, FOSTERING AN ENABLING ATMOSPHERE, AND IS ALSO DEEPLY COMMITTED TO ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH ITS SISTER ORGANISATION, THE ANDAMANS CONSERVANCY FOUNDATION.
THE EIGHT FOUNDATION AIMS TO EXPAND ITS GEOGRAPHICAL REMIT BEYOND THE CURRENT REGIONS OF FOCUS (i.e., THE ANDAMAN ISLANDS, SINGAPORE AND DELHI), ENGAGING WITH ARTISTS AND COMMUNITIES IN SOUTH EAST ASIA AND WEST ASIA.
